IF you are young, if you can sing and if you would like to sing in a choir, then opportunity has come knocking for you.
The award-winning County Limerick Youth Choir is inviting new members to join in their music making and is holding auditions at County Hall in Dooradoyle on Saturday, March 1.
To be eligible, you need to be aged between 17 and 26 years.
“All types of singing voices are welcome,” says choir director Máire Keary Scanlon, “but boy’s voices are particularly wanted. The choir has a lovely blend of male and female voices which we are anxious to keep. An ability to read music is not compulsory, but preferable.”
Since it was established by Limerick County Council Arts Office in 2006, the County Limerick Youth Choir has won several awards including first place at Best Limerick Choir at Limerick’s Sacred Music Festival, National Youth Choir in 2010 and the highest achieving choir at the Cork Choral Festival. The Choir has also participated in choral festivals in Vienna and Nice.
The choir performs both contemporary and classical pieces.
According to Bríd Quinn, Limerick County Council Arts Office, the choir meets each Satruday at Limerick County Hall for practice. “The emphasis is on giving young people the opportunity to enjoy singing a range of classical and contemporary music. Choir membership is made up of students from schools in the city and county and from third level students from various national colleges of education,” she explains.
“We are inviting anyone interested in joining the County Limerick Youth Choir to please make an audition appointment with the Arts Office, and to come along and sing their favourite song,” Ms Quinn adds. Contact 061 407372 or email@example.com.
