LIMERICK based rapper and producer MuRli, one third of the incredible MynameisjOhn-God Knows set, released his new EP Surface Tension this week.

The 24-year-old MC, based in Limerick, but of Togolese descent, has been building his story-telling abilities and charismatic stage presence for some time and set them free with the superb new EP, which was released this Tuesday.

There are seven tracks of wise words and creative story telling all bursting with character. The lyrics stem from a time that MuRli refers to as one of the darkest moments of his life, but the message is one of hope.

“With no job, no money, and hence an eternity of time on my hands, I entered a stage of deep reflection,” he says.

“I started to question my earlier choices in life, and my overall role in society. What have I got to do to be more like the people around? What have I got to do to get to their levels? What’s wrong with the world? How come society seems to be on a downward slope at a time when we have achieved so much in terms of technological development, among others?”

The EP offers an insight into the battle within the mind of its author and his resistance against the pressures that come with feeling helpless. And while the story being told might be one of uncertainty and hardship, it is delivered in a form of musical celebration and unity.

The tracks feature beats by mynameisjOhn and Naïve Ted and vocals from God Knows and Guide.
