CITY of Culture and Music Generation are seeking singers and choirs for “the largest community choral event ever held in Limerick”.

The Shouting Fence is a large scale community choral project that will be performed in the Culture Factory in October.

Working in association with Music Generation, the event will involve over 300 local singers and choirs, including a children’s choir.

The project also has an international professional collaboration at its heart, with twelve soloists from The Shout, a UK choir especially formed for it, also taking part.

“The Shouting Fence is a musical manifesto against the wall in Palestine, and by extension against all walls - literal and figurative - constructed in the name of extremist ideologies,” explained a spokesperson.

“It is a choral project, but also a theatrical event.”

The unique project will see singers from Limerick and the soloists from the UK literally sing to each other across a divide - symbolising the wall.

The audience will be barricaded between the choirs as an acoustic battle rages over their heads.

Rehearsals led by Máire Keary Scanlon will be held once a week throughout September and early October.

“We are looking for choirs, adults and children,” she explained.

“We are looking for anyone who wants to be involved. You do not have to be part of a choir - just enthusiastic!”

Full choir rehearsals will take place from on October 11, 12 and 15, with the first performance taking place on October 16, running to October 19.
