Water supplies in West Limerick affected by weather
WATER tankers have been deployed across West Limerick after the public water supply was badly affected by the recent bad weather conditions.
The tankers are located in Abbeyfeale, Athea, Mountcollins and Tournafulla and they will remain there during daylight hours.
Limerick County Council says the problem is due to low water levels in the resevoir near Abbeyfeale, which has been caused by a number of burst pipes and increased demand due to the freezing weather.
"The prolongled cold spell had made it difficult for council crews to locate and fix the burst pipes," said a spokesman for Limerick County Council
Council workers are working to rectify the problem and the local authority says a further update will be issued later today.
Members of the public are being advised to conserve water and not to leave taps running in their homes.
