Two arrested after loaded gun seized in Limerick

Two men are being questioned by gardai following the seizure of a loaded glock pistol in the Corbally area in the early hours of Sunday morning.

The arrests were made as part of an operation put in place to target ongoing feuding in Limerick City.

A Garda spokesman confirmed that the arrests were made shortly before 2am when a stolen car was observed by local personnel and members of the Emergency Response Unit.

The car refused to stop when requested to do so and was subsequently stopped a short distance away on Athlunkard Road on the outskirts of the city.

The occupants of the car -two men aged 20 and 23- were arrested and a loaded Glock pistol was recovered.

Both men are being detained under section 30 of the Offences Against The State Act at Henry Street and Mayorstone Garda Stations.

Gardai say the incident is linked to the recent escalation of feuding activity in the city.
