Traders accused of 'abusing' bottle banks
PUBLICANS and other commercial business people are dumping bottles at Limerick County Council bottle banks which are intended for use by domestic households only, Cllr Michael Collins has stated.
"These are commercial enterprises and they have their own way of disposing of their recyclables, which means paying to do so," Cllr Collins told Newcastle West electoral area councillors. "Instead, they are using bottle banks as dumps."
He asked that the abuse be publicly highlighted.
Cllr Jerome Scanlan, agreeing, said that it was a pity that the council's amenity areas for recycling were open only two days a week and proposed that council management be contacted with a view to longer and more convenient opening hours.
