Tony is ready to switch on the Christmas spirit

CROWDS are expected to travel from all over Limerick to Templeglantine this Friday night when Tony Noonan officially turns on his famous Christmas lights display.

Every year, the spectacular light show at the Noonan home in Tullig North attracts hundreds of visitors and raises thousands of euro for local charities.

Tony spends the best part of 12 months planning and assembling the Christmas display, which is now recognised as one of the most popular of its kind in the country. Last year, through donations made by people visiting the Noonan home to see the lights, a total of j15,000 was raised for charities in Limerick. Tony told the Limerick Leader that he was looking forward to finally switching on this year's display at 7pm on Friday, and that he was hopeful the weather won't be too much of a factor.

"The weather won't cause us any trouble with the lights, but obviously we're hoping it'll be good and won't keep too many people away. We raised a huge amount of money last year, and we've three very worthy charities this year so anything we can get for them will be great. Any money we raise will be a bonus," he said.

Directions: To get to Noonan's from Abbeyfeale, turn left from the N21 at Mountmahon industrial estate and continue on. From Newcastle West, pass the Devon Inn, take the first right and follow the arrows.
