There's no-one as Irish as Barack O'Bama!

A TRIO of brothers from Limerick have recorded a tribute to American Presidential hopeful Barack Obama that addresses the Illinois Senator's Irish ancestry.

The brothers, calling themselves Hardy Drew and the Nancy Boys, have released a song called "There's no one as Irish as Barack O'Bama" and the song has become a hit on the internet, garnering media attention on both sides of the Atlantic for the Limerick natives.

It was revealed last year that Barack Obama has roots in the small town of Moneygall in Offaly as research by the genealogy website ancestry.co.uk showed that his great great great grandfather was born in Ireland.

Following this Canon Stephen Neill, a Church of Ireland rector, examined church files dating back to the 1700s and confirmed Obama's somewhat tenuous Irish heritage.

Ger Corrigan, together with his brothers Brian and Donnacha, all originally from Castletroy, make up the three piece band and he explained the idea behind the song.

"We have been messing around for the last year or two as a band and have been basically just writing songs that are a bit of fun. We wrote the song about Obama because we heard he was from Moneygall and we were really just doing it for a bit of fun."

While the trio might have been satirising the dynamic politician's mixed heritage, the reaction to the song has been far more serious.

"We put it up on YouTube and it has gone from 25 hits in the first week to over 3,300 hits three weeks later. If you search for it on the web it is on loads of websites, it is everywhere." Various media outlets have carried reports about the song, including the Irish Voice and Irish World newspapers.

While the band might be getting plenty of publicity, one wonders if the man himself has heard the song?

"I don't know if he has heard it himself but he definitely will, there are no two ways about it! We sent it to his official organisation and we have had word back. We got an invite from 'Michiganders for Obama' to come and perform if he gets elected. It is gone mad."

The inventive lyrics are below and see YouTube for the song itself.

O'Leary, O'Reilly, O'Hare and O'Hara

There's no one as Irish as Barack O'Bama

You don't believe me

I hear you say

But Barack's as Irish

As was JFK

His granddaddyss daddy

Came from Moneygall

A small Irish village

Well known to you all

Toor a loo, toor a loo, toor a loo, toor a lama

There's no one as Irish

As Barack O'Bama

He's as Irish as bacon

And cabbage and stew

He's Hawaiian he's Kenyan

American too

If he succeeds

And he has a chance

I'm sure our Barack

Will do Riverdance

Toor a loo, toor a loo, toor a loo, toor a lama

There's no one as Irish

As Barack O'Bama
