St Patrick's Day plan not on ice
THE event management company behind Ireland On Ice has been appointed to co-ordinate Limerick's St Patrick's Day festivities for the next two years.
The skates are on for Futureama Productions who want to showcase the best the city has to offer in this year's parade in seven weeks time.
The company won the contract after it came up for renewal late last year. Eightball Productions who held the contract up until now did not apply to renew it for 2008.
Futureama Productions has extensive experience in organising events and festivals in Limerick over the past 11 years. President Clinton's visit to Limerick, the big screen and homecoming for the Munster Rugby team in 2006 were all hailed as great successes and portrayed Limerick in a positive light.
Managing Director Fran O'Donnell said: "As a Limerick man I am delighted to have secured the city's event management contract and we have lots of ideas, enthusiasm and energy to put into delivering the best festivals possible for the city."
He is planning a St Patrick's Day Festival to remember this year. The festival, formerly known as Springfest, will open with the popular Band Parade on Sunday March 16 and local, national and international bands are being invited to take part before marching in St Patrick's Day parades throughout the country.
"The Band Parade is now in its 36th year and is very popular with Limerick people, this year we are hoping to have a great representation from Limerick bands, as well as bands from Northern Ireland, the US, UK and Europe," Mr O'Donnell said.
Shannon Development's Limerick City Regional Development Manager, Eoghan Prendergast, said they were delighted to see that the Band Parade is still as popular as ever with Limerick people.
"We are delighted to support Limerick St. Patrick's Festival again this year and to see that it is promises to be a fantastic fun weekend for all the family," Mr Prendergast added.
Meanwhile, the theme of the St. Patrick's Day parade will be the United Colours of Limerick and all sporting, cultural, community and social organisations are invited to take part.
All the Eastern European people now living here, as well as other ethnic groups who have made Limerick their home are very welcome to participate in the St. Patrick's Day Parade on March 17.
