Sinn Fein councillor gets huge reception at party's Ard Fheis
LIMERICK councillor Maurice Quinlivan received a rapturous round of applause when he took to the stage at the Sinn Fein Ard Fheis in Dublin this Saturday.
The city councillor, who successfully brought a defamation case to the High Court against former minister Willie O'Dea last year, used the opportunity to accuse the Government of failing to live up to the promises it made to the people of Limerick's Regeneration areas.
Cllr Quinlivan said the arson attack on two children in Moyross in September 2006 "shocked the state and forced them into action".
He said if the Fitzgerald report, which followed, had been fully implemented, it "would have led to the transformation of whole sections of Limerick".
"However the announcement that the Government will not be providing the 1.7 billion euro for the Regeneration of Limerick is a betrayal of Limerick and its people."
The Sinn Fein Ard Fheis is taking place in the RDS in Dublin and Gerry Adams is due to make a presidential address at 8.30pm.
