Second tragic death hits Limerick city family
THE younger brother of a Limerick woman callously shot dead in the city has tragically died from a drugs overdose.
Garda sources have confirmed that Jason O'Donnell, who was 22, from Richmond Park in Corbally, died on Thursday night last.
The tragic death comes 12 years after his older sister Georgina died when she was shot in the face at the now-closed Henry Cecil nightclub in Lower Cecil Street.
The 21-year-old mother – whose daughter Courtney was just nine months old at the time – lost her battle for life at the Mid-Western Regional Hospital hours after the attack.
Limerick city east councillor John Gilligan said the O'Donnell family are "a very well respected family" in Corbally.
He added: "My son is very upset, as he was in the same class (as Jason] at primary school. They made their First Communion together when they were kids.
"For someone with so much potential to die so tragically is what makes this so sad. Also given the fact his sister died in such tragic circumstances. It's hard enough for the family to bury one of their children. To have to bury two is something which is just a tragedy, just dreadful."
Jason is survived by parents Vera and Anthony, brother Anthony and sisters, Sandra, Tracey, Audrey, Breda, Pamela and Olivia, as well as nephews and nieces.
Requiem mass will take place this Tuesday morning at 11am, with burial afterwards in Mount Saint Oliver Cemetery.
