Robin collects €100m of luxury at K Club
A LIMERICK businessman will this weekend be in charge of a special show with more than €100m worth of luxury items on display.
Former city antique dealer Robin O'Donnell will this Saturday head to the opulent surroundings of the K-Club in Co Kildare for an exhibition entitled 'The Luxury Collection', an internationally acclaimed event, where fine art, travel, jewellery and fashion fuse for one hedonistic weekend.
It is the second time Robin - who after 20 years running an antiques shop in Ellen Street, moved to Ballina where he runs Hibernian Antiques - has run the event, considered by many to be Ireland's answer to 'The Millionnaire's Show'.
Eighty top-line companies - including car manufacturers Bentley, Maserati, and fashion firm Harvey Nicholls - will put their finest wares on display, up from just 25 companies last year.
"The audience of the show tends to be very mature and sophisticated. Last year's event was fantastic. We got all the top-end people from around the country," recalled Robin, "but the idea is to build it up and make it larger. The most pleasing thing about last year was the people in the K-Club said it was the best event they had ever hosted. Praise indeed!"
This year's highlights include London auctioneers Sotheby's putting on show some rare jewels from the 1920s and 30s - worth a hefty €12m - while the best dressed lady stands to pick up a €10,000 diamond ring.
Elsewhere, car enthusiasts will be in heaven as the Bugatti Veyron sports car will make its first appearance on Irish soil.
Although many have compared The Luxury Collection to the Millionaire's Show - which puts on display equally as expensive goods at various locations across the world - Robin said: "It might sound like a copy ..... but that was not my intention originally. The idea was there for quite a while. When I heard the millionaire's show - I was not aware of it. I think we have something different."
There are a limited number of tickets left for the event, which are on sale at the gate for €15. For more information, call 01-6017200.
