Results indicate Byrne Avenue blaze was malicious

PRELIMINARY results of forensic examinations carried out at the scene of a house fire in Prospect over the weekend indicate the blaze was caused maliciously.

The house on Byrne Avenue was extensively damaged on Friday night as flames engulfed the property at 3.15am.

Nobody was injured during the fire as the house was unoccupied having being vacated a number of weeks ago.

Awoken by the emergency operation, neighbours looked on as two units of Limerick's Fire Service brought the blaze under control within half an hour.

The scene was preserved pending a full technical examination which was carried out by the scenes of crime unit based at Roxboro Garda Station. "Preliminary results indicate the fire was started deliberately," a garda spokesperson said.
