Rapid meeting put back
A MEETING to explain the RAPID programme and what it will mean for Rathkeale has been postponed. The information meeting was due to take place in the town this Friday and the Minister for Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs, Eamon O'Cuiv was expected to address it.
The meeting will now take place hopefully in January, David Breen, the
town's development officer confirmed.
Last May, Rathkeale was named as one of five additional provincial towns to be given RAPID status by Minister O'Cuiv, a move which was welcomed in the town.
Rathkeale was selected on the basis of data which emerged from
the 2006 census.
The RAPID programme is designed to target the most disadvantaged areas
in the country - and aims to give priority attention to areas with a concentration of poverty and social exclusion.
Better co-ordination and a closer integration of services are the hallmarks of the initiative which now includes 26 urban areas and 25 provincial towns.
