Psychiatric report sought in Limerick assault case

Limerick Circuit Court

Limerick Circuit Court

A JUDGE has requested a psychiatric report in the case of a Prospect man who pleaded guilty to assaulting an elderly man at Upper William Street more than two years ago.

Earlier this year, Graham Kelly, 27, of Byrne Avenue pleaded guilty to assaulting Michael Mulcahy Snr at Upper William Street on May 3, 2009.

Mr Mulcahy sustained serious dental injuries when he was punched in the face by Kelly during what was described as a “moment of madness”.

During a sentencing hearing, Judge Carroll Moran said he was considering imposing a three-year-prison sentence in the case.

However, Laurence Goucher BL, representing Kelly, requested an adjournment to facilitate the completion of a psychiatric report.

Judge Moran granted the application and indicated he willimpose sentence on December 16, next.

I never said I condone violence. If a man verbally abused my father & told me where to go for approaching him well tbh I would have a problem with that. @Paddymog are you referring to my work buddies? Because when I am not at work I spend my time with my wife & child in my house that I have a mortgage on.=) We're not used to chatting with people who have no records here are we guys =) @ dyanisis Ouch that comeback had the venom of a daddy long legs. Again gentlemen enjoy your day. =) P.S Go to the Honest Limerickman you will enjoy the intellect that posts over there, it might make you feel inferior. Byyye.

@Dyanisis thank you for your kind remarks. I wasn't really rebutting anything, after all, Ronnie7 agreed with me in his opening sentence. As far as I can judge, these comments are moderated automatically, and the computer has a list of unacceptabe terms. So, you could say 'shyte' and the computer won't mind, but if you say w-anchor, like Ronnie7, the computer won't like that at all. I love the way Ronnie7 says 'a right hand to the chin' like it was a perfectly reasonable reaction, when the law considers it assault causing harm. That's Limerick for you. Anyway, I hope Ronnie7 finishes the story - he did say there were four men involved, we've heard about GrahamGraeme Kelly, his pedestrian father and the unfortunate Mr. Mulcahy, that's only three so far. I can't wait....

Hiya Ronnie - no, I'm not a Leader moderator! Bit of keyboard-rage there on your side too, eh? Glad you were able to get your version of the story published though. Have a nice day yourself with your buddies.

Long story short Mulcahy abused that man's father verbally because the man was not moving as fast as he liked whilst crossing William street, think they call it road-rage, Mulcahy was asked to apologise for his obscenity & when he told Graeme Kelly where he could go with his apology he was met with a right hand to the chin. Might I add Mulcahy did not have pearly whites like our American counter-parts before this incident nor did he have anywhere near 32 teeth, So what you have here is a man looking for a little payout in these economic times. Also Mr Mulcahy know's the parents of Graeme Kelly for over 20 years so having called that man's father a certain W word makes it even more laughable...Hence why Mr Mulcahy asked for the boy not to get jail time. Mr Mulcahy is no stranger to payouts from the state, after all he claims to be half deaf from his service in the army. So guys why don't you stick to talking about real criminals ie the gangs ones shooting innocent people dead.

Obviously not Paddymog. Are you a moderator for the leader? If so kindly post my reply to this story & let people judge for themselves if they stumble upon verbiage. If you are just another nobody who believes everything the paper informs them then I believe you will find no trace of vulgarity or technical expressions. What you will hear is what actually happened between those four men as I am familiar with all parties involved & you will hear my opinion of why this ended in a court case. But until then sir save your petulance & assumptions for somebody who might not be able to hold a conversation with you. Have a nice day.

It's almost a shame that he did not have a "string of other crimes" that he could have been tried for at the same time. He could then have faced the awful prospect of serving his various sentences "concurrently". What a joke the system has become.

Isn't that nice the judge is considering imposing a three year sentence ahhhh. If the judge is in a good mood he might get off.I would like to know how much is Graham Kelly contributing to Mr Mulcahy dental bills as we all know its not cheap.Psychiatric report on what to be more lenient.I stand to be corrected.
