Newcastle rugby clubs to expand facilities
WORK has begun on the extension of the pavilion facilities at each of Newcastle West RFC's grounds.
The total spend will be j200,000, and work with be completed at Killeline and at Cullinagh by the start of the new season in September.
Work has already commenced at Killeline on the construction of two additional dressing rooms, bringing the number to four, with ancillary facilities such as a gymnasium and additional toilets. There will also be an enclosed roofed and glazed area from where parents can watch their children in training and in competition and which will also be used for serving refreshments.
Work will commence shortly at Cullinagh, where the work to be undertaken will include doubling the number of dressing rooms to four, with additional toilets, and the building of a room for meetings and club occasions that will also house much of the club's memorabilia. The club traces its history to its foundation in the winter of 1924/25.
The secretary of Newcastle West RFC, Anne Normoyle, told the Limerick Leader that, with 350 members, playing and non-playing, the expanded facilities had been seen as being needed for some time.
