Miracle baby thanks Limerick hospital

NINE months after her premature birth, Limerick’s miracle baby, Aimee Hennessy - who was born weighing just 1lb 3oz - has returned to the hospital where she was born to thank the staff who saved her life.
The little girl – who was so small at birth that her father John’s wedding band could fit around her arm – was tipping the scales of Limerick’s maternity hospital at 11lbs 11oz when she returned this week.
“She is laughing and smiling now. We found out that she has tickles this morning,” smiled John who made the visit to the hospital’s neonatal unit this Monday with his wife Nicola and baby Aimee to present a cheque of €3,000 to the staff.
The money was raised after over 50 people including the Kilmallock couple’s relations and friends took part in the Great Limerick Run in May of this year to raise funds for the unit and to show their appreciation for the care Aimee received during her 130 day stay in the unit.
Margo Dunworth, midwifery manager, accepted the cheque on behalf of the midwives and staff who, she said, are “all in love with the gorgeous Aimee”.
“She was 24 weeks when she was born so she broke all records here in Limerick. To see her picture perfect there – she is an absolute gem. Every time she comes back to the consultants, mum brings her up to us and we get a photograph.”
