Minister says Limerick Regeneration Agencies need to ‘refocus’
ENVIRONMENT Minister Phil Hogan was met with anti-household charge protestors when he visited Limerick County Hall last evening.
Mr Hogan, who has introduced the €100 charge, was greeted by demonstrators from the Limerick Campaign Against the Household and Water Taxes group, which included former Mayor of Limerick Joe Harrington.
One member was dressed up as a highwayman, in order to illustrate the widely-held opposition to the controversial charge.
Mr Hogan, who declined to comment on the demonstration, was in Limerick for meetings with the regeneration agencies, and the two councils on the impending merger.
Having previously been critical of progress on the regeneration process, he said the time for the multi-million euro project to refocus itself is now.
He said it now needed to concentrate on its building programme this year, in line with the targets set out in that plan four years ago. He said the Regeneration project would continue to have a strong focus when Limerick’s city and county councils amalgamate in the coming year.
