Mayor tells Limerick gangs to 'go out of business in a hurry'
THE Mayor of Limerick says he is cynical over a series of meetings that have been taking place between high profile members of the city's feuding gangs.
"I would find it absolutely abhorrent if the gangs are meeting in order to regulate their trade," Councillor John Gilligan told the Limerick Leader. "As mayor of Limerick, that would be absolutely f****** unacceptable to me."
"The best thing the gangs could do is go out of business in a hurry," he said. "All they have ever brought to Limerick is blood, death, and misery."
The Limerick Leader has learned that a meeting between rival gang members scheduled for 8pm at the Clarion Hotel on Wednesday night was cancelled after members of the national media learned that it was due to take place.
The heads of Limerick's criminal fraternities who are not currently in prison, with the support of those who are incarcerated, have been meeting in secret to bring the feud to an end.
