Man arrested in assault investigation

GARDAI have arrested a man in relation to a vicious attack on Friday which put a 21-year-old in intensive care.

The man was arrested in the city centre just after noon today and is being questioned in Henry Street Garda Station this evening.

Two men are believed to be reponsible for the attack which took place on Michael Street just after 6pm on Friday evening.

"We can keep this man in custody for up to 24 hours and we are continuing to look for at least one more man in relation to the incident," said a Det Sgt Eamon O'Neill.

A spokesperson for Cork University Hospital - where the victim was transferred for emergency surgery on Saturday - said he is stable but still in intensive care.
