Limerick tennis star Conor Niland wins the final of the Israel Open

THE 28-year-old tennis pro from Mungret defeated Brazilian Thiago Alves in a match that lasted three hours and eight minutes.

Niland now stands as the Irish number one, breaking into the top 200 players in the world and winning a cheque for $14,400.

The Limerick player bounced back after trailing a set down in the final to claim victory 5-7, 7-6, 6-3.

Following his triumph in Ramat Hasharon, Niland will now begin final preparations for the French Open.
