Limerick Musical Society hit the roof with Fiddler production

LIMERICK Musical Society's production of the classic musical Fiddler on the Roof opens this Thursday night in the University Concert Hall, marking the society's tenth anniversary since their foundation.

The production will run until Saturday, and a limited number of tickets remain for the nightly performances.

The Junior Minister for Overseas Development, Peter Power, recently joined Limerick Musical Society to launch the production, which will feature a large cast of over 60 people.

Fiddler is an immensely popular musical that has captivated audiences around the globe since its original Broadway production in 1964, since being revived on Broadway in 2004.

"This production, with lavish costumes and vibrant sets, will be a visually spectacular musical, and the chorus and costumes will add to the authenticity of this moving musical by Stein, Harnick and Bock," said Gerry Ryan, PRO of Limerick Musical Society.

Well known local actor Richie Ryan will direct the piece, and said of the musical that "the infectious nature of the music has to be heard to be believed".

"This production promises to be one of the musical theatre highlights of 2010," said Richie.

Marie Keary-Scanlon has directed the music for the show, while AIMS award-winner, Niamh Twoomey, has done the choreography. Heading the cast are Martin McNielus in the title role of Tevye; Roisin Walsh, as Yente his wife, and Nigel Dugdale as Motel. Up to 60 other local performers of all ages will complete the cast and chorus.

Fiddler on the Roof takes place in UCH from this Thursday to Saturday. For more see www.uch.ie
