Limerick murder case is adjourned

THE case of two members of the same family who are charged with murdering Ger McMahon on the southside the city last month has been adjourned as the book of evidence in the case is not yet complete.
Sean Flanagan, 26, of Lenihan Avenue, Prospect and his uncle - Paul Colbert, 44, also of Lenihan Avenue appeared before Limerick court this week via video link from Limerick Prison.
They are both accused of murdering Mr McMahon on January 18, last.
The 43-year-old, who lived at Raheen Square, Ballinacurra Weston died in hospital a short time after he was found lying on steps outside a house at Lenihan Avenue, Prospect in the early hours of the morning.
A post mortem examination, which was carried out by the state pathologist, prof Marie Cassidy, showed he died after he was stabbed a number of times.
The two defendants have been in custody since they first appeared in court a number of days after the fatal stabbing.
When the case was called, Sgt Michelle Leahy told the court the book of evidence in the case was not yet complete.
Judge Eamon O’Brien remanded the two defendants, who appeared before the court separately, in continuing custody until February 21, next.
Both men are due to appear before the court again via video link on that occasion.
Another relative of Flanagan and Colbert has also been charged in connection with the death of Ger McMahon.
Ian Flanagan, 22, of Lenihan Avenue, Prospect is accused of impeding the garda investigation in Mr MCMahon’s death. He was previously granted bail and is due to appear before Limerick court again next week.
A total of seven people, including a 17-year-old girl have been arrested as part of the murder investigation, which at one stage, involved almost 50 gardai.
