A YOUNG man who escaped from garda custody earlier this week is back behind bars after he was arrested at Limerick Courthouse.

Christopher Curtin, 18, of Salvia Court, Southill was one of two people who escaped as they were being returned to Limerick Prison on Wednesday after appearing before Limerick District Court.

Curtin was arrested on Friday afternoon shortly after he had arrived at Limerick Circuit Court where he was due to be sentenced in relation to a separate burglary offence.

He was arrested by gardai as he sat with his mother in the public gallery of the packed courtroom. Later in the day he was sentenced to two years in prison in relation to the burglary offence, which occurred at a pub in Castleconnell in May of last year.

Curtin is due back before Limerick District Court next week when he will be sentenced in relation to a road traffic matter.
