Limerick death probe: 'No significant developments'
THE Garda investigation is continuing into the death of 92-year-old James Mulqueen at his home in Kilcolman less than a fortnight ago.
Supt Joe Roe, who is leading the investigation, said this week they were continuing to regard the death as suspicious.
"There have been no significant developments," he said, "but the investigation is still ongoing. We have had a number of case- conferences. We are reviewing everything and the work is ongoing."
Mr Mulqueen, who lived alone at Ballymakeera a few miles from both Ardagh and Kilcolman, was found dead on Friday, October 23, when neighbours noticed he had not left home as usual to collect his pension.
Although initially Mr Mulqueen's death was considered to be from natural causes, a number of injuries detected at his postmortem led to the Garda investigation.
For operational reasons, the Gardai have not elaborated on the number or nature of Mr Mulqueen's injuries. But they have confirmed that there was no evidence of a forced break-in at Mr Mulqueen's home, nor was there any evidence of property taken.
Gardai have carried out door-to-door enquiries in a bid to create a time line of events up to Mr Mulqueen's death.
They have also appealed to anyone who may have seen Mr Mulqueen in the days before his death to come forward.
And anybody with any information which they think may be of interest or relevant to the Garda investigation is also asked to contact them.
The incident room set up in Rathkeale to conduct the investigation has a new number, 069-67205, and anybody with information can contact Gardai there or, on a 24-hour basis, can contact Askeaton Garda station on 061-392102.
