Limerick's 'The Bull' hints this may be his last season

MUNSTER and Ireland rugby star John Hayes has for the first time hinted at when he may draw the curtain on his glittering career.

Accepting the Limerick Leader Person of the Month Award this week, the Cappamore man said he was looking forward to the start of the new season but could not say if he would continue to play once the season came to a close.

"I'm looking forward to this year and I'll see after this year if I'll play on again next year. After that I don't actually know what I will do. I haven't actually thought about it," said the Bruff RFC member.

Despite being at an age when many players start to wind down their careers, Hayes has enjoyed the form of his life in recent seasons.

At 34 years of age, talk of retirement is hard to avoid for the player, affectionately known as 'The Bull'. However, a number of barnstorming performances for both Munster and Ireland mean Tony McGahan and Declan Kidney would certainly like to keep any discussion of retirement on the backburner for the time being.

'The Bull' has amassed 84 international caps in his eight years on the Irish side. He made his debut against Scotland in February 2000 and went on to win three Triple Crowns.

It was with Munster, however, that Hayes enjoyed greatest success, winning two Heineken Cups, with the second coming just four months ago in Cardiff's Millennium Stadium.
