Limerick man throws book at Garda in court
THERE were shocking scenes at Limerick District Court yesterday afternoon when a man hurled a book of evidence across the courtroom at a detective.
The incident happened just seconds after Garda Paraig O'Dywer, Roxboro Garda Station, had served the hefty document on 38-year-old Christopher Curtin from Salvia Court, Keyes Park, Southill.
As Garda O'Dywer was returning to the witness box, Mr Curtin threw the book of evidence, which was in two volumes, at him narrowly missing members of the public who were in the packed courtroom.
Mr Curtin's outburst prompted the presiding judge, Elizabeth McGrath, to instruct solicitor John Devane to warn his client about his behaviour in court.
Although Garda O'Dwyer was not injured, it is expected that Mr Curtin will face charges in relation to the incident.
