Limerick man in assault case remanded in custody

A PROSPECT man has been remanded in custody after he appeared in court charged in connection with an attack which left city man Adam Hayes in a critical condition at Cork University Hospital.

Michael Kirby, 24, of Hyde Road is accused of assaulting the 21-year-old causing him serious harm at Michael Street last Friday evening. Mr Hayes from Lee Estate allegedly sustained injuries to his head and body in the attack.

At Limerick District Court, Judge Eamon O'Brien was told the accused man was arrested on Monday afternoon in Limerick city centre. Garda Brendan Healy, Henry Street, said he made no reply when he was formally charged this morning under the provisions of the Non Fatal Offences Against the Person Act.

Mr Kirby was granted legal aid and solicitor John Herbert was assigned to represent him.

Mr Herbert said his client was reserving his position regarding bail and Judge O'Brien remanded him in custody until December 2, next.
