Limerick ladies prepare to return home for Rose of Tralee

THE dresses have been picked, the flights booked and the excitement is building in the far away homes of two Limerick women who will return to Ireland in the coming days to take part in the Rose of Tralee Festival.

The Dubai Rose, Elaine Rael from Castletroy and the Sydney Rose, Louise Lenihan, who is originally from Croagh, will fly the Limerick flag in Tralee this year.

Not for the first time, the Kerry Rose has been installed as the favourite to win the competition this year.

The 2010 Rose of Tralee will be crowned on Tuesday, August 24, and bookmaker Paddy Power has put odds of 18/1 on the Sydney Rose and 33/1 on the Dubai Rose to win the title.

Paddy Power has also put odds of 20/1 on new host Daithi O'Shea to marry one of the Roses who will take part in this year's event.

Whatever the odds, the Limerick women can bet on enjoying a once in a lifetime experience in the Kingdom of Kerry.

Sydney's Louise Lenihan is the daughter of emigrants, Michael and Marie, and she moved to Australia from Croagh, County Limerick, when she was just a one year old baby.

The Irish dancing teacher is a regular visitor to Ireland and took part in the Irish Dancing World Championships last year.

The 26-year-old works as an Aurora Community Channel television scheduler and plans to move into feature film writing or production.

Dubai's Elaine Rael landed on the Arabian Peninsula last October, a week after a successful telephone interview with Emirates International School.

Elaine, who is also 26, had applied to countless schools at home and when she was offered the opportunity to teach grade three in Dubai, she jumped at the chance.
