Limerick hit by torrential downpours
THE umbrella, considered the most unfashionable accessory in summertime, made an unwelcome comeback in Limerick city today during unseasonal torrential downpours.
Summer sunshine has been eclipsed by the wet weather and the forecast is bleak for this weekend with strong winds, rain and scattered showers set to continue.
Commuters experienced monsoon-like conditions en route to work this Thursday morning as the heavens opened on top of them.
The city streets were submerged during the downpour leaving pedestrians
side-stepping large puddles which appeared suddenly on footpaths.
A Limerick farmer who gauges the rain on his farmin Ardpatrick said the weather is in "a broken mood at the moment because of an Atlantic depression which can affect us at any time of the year, but it is dominating our weather pattern at the moment".
David Mescall said he escaped the rain on Thursday morning
but recorded 4mm of rain overnight."
The amateur weatherman predicted more rain for another week but
optimistically added; "Hopefully it won't be as prolonged as last summer".
We'll second that!
