A PROMINENT city councillor has warned that if the new houses built as part of the regeneration process are not managed properly, they may fall into disrepair.

Fine Gael councillor Pat Kennedy says he fears the new build homes planned for Southill and Moyross could follow the same narrative as the Glenagross Park estate if proper care is not taking.

Speaking at a housing committee meeting, Cllr Kennedy admitted he is concerned that any mismanagement could leave the taxpayer “exposed” to more public spend.

He said the Glenagross Park estate in Moyross - opened in the 1970s - had declined in quality badly, despite at one time being among the best housing stock in the city.

“There has been a huge amount of money spent, but there must be proper management of these estates, in terms of a private management company. I do not want to see these [regeneration] houses being demolished in two years time, because they are not being managed properly. I am not expecting miracles, but I am not going to have the taxpayer exposed to this,” he said.

Was this tulip concerned when him and all the other tulips tuned moyross into the biggest cul de sac in europe. Regeneration would never have been needed if they had bothered to listen to people when the anti-social behavior started. Any and all complaints were totaly ignored and people left to fend for themselves and it still goes on in fairview crescent, good people have to leave their homes to get away from these scum bags. Cllr Kennedy is 30 years too late wiyh his comments.

Ah Pat, what a brilliant insight. Nobody but you could foresee that neglected houses will fall into disrepair. The city council is fortunate to have such a far-seeing man as a member, We can all sleep easy knowing that you have the long-term vision.

Pat Kennedy wasn't too worried about exposing the taxpayer when he tried to pocket €1,700 mileage while his car was off the road http:www.limerickleader.iecommunity … _1_3288781
