Limerick band sought to support Bob Dylan concert in Thomond Park
"A YOUNG and energetic" rock band from Limerick will have to chance to share the stage with Bob Dylan in Thomond Park this summer.
David Gray, Seasick Steve and Alabama 3 will also be support acts at the stadium on July 4.
But Aiken Promotions announced this Friday that Bob Dylan has personally requested that a young, energetic, local rock & roll band open the show.
Peter Aiken said the upcoming concert will be "an all-day music event", and special trains - dubbed the Bob Dylan Express - will travelling from Dublin and Galway for the music marathon.
At least two gigs will be held in the stadium every year, Mr Aiken said.
The Limerick Leader's entertainment correspondent Alan Owens, Mick Dolan of Dolan's music venue on the Dock Road, and Live 95 FM will chose the act to play on that date.
"It's an amazing opportunity for a young band. It doesn't get any better than sharing a bill with Bob Dylan," said Mr Dolan.
Live 95 and The Limerick Leader will publicise competition details over the coming days.
Gates to Thomond Park will open at 2.30pm on July 4, and the show will start at 8.30pm.
