Jury told Shane Geoghegan was shot five times

A CENTRAL Criminal Court jury has been told that rugby player Shane Geoghegan died after he was shot five times in the head and body.
In her evidence State Pathologist, Prof Marie Cassidy, said three bullets were recovered from the body of the 28-year-old who was shot in the early hours of November 9, 2008.
Barry Doyle, 26, who has addresses at Portland Row in Dublin and at Hyde Road in Limerick has pleaded not guilty to murdering the Garryowen captain.
Prof Cassidy told the jury one of the bullets had gone through the back of Shane Geoghegan’s skull and penetrated the eye socket.
She said he also sustained gunshot wounds to his trunk, arm and abdomen.
It is the state case that Shane Geoghegan was short in a case of mistaken identity.
The trial is continuing before Mr Justice Garrett Sheahan at the Central Criminal Court in Dublin.
