Iarnrod Eireann defends freight yard clamping
IARNROD Eireann is defending its decision to begin clamping cars that are being parked without permission at its freight yard on Roxboro Road in the city.
The company says dozens of motorists have been parking at the freight yard on a daily basis to avoid paying for on-street parking or at private car parks.
Attempts to stop the practice have failed and PJR Services has been contracted by Iarnrod Eireann to enforce the clamping, which came into effect on Monday.
One motorist whose car was clamped on Monday contacted the Limerick Leader to say she didn't know that clamping had been introduced.
"I have been parking there for ages and there were no signs or anything, but when I came back to my car on Monday there were new signs and I had been clamped. I had to pay j100 to get the clamp removed, it's a rip-off," she said.
Iarnrod Eireann confirmed that motorists who park in the set-down area outside Colbert Station are also being targeted.
