Gary Campion found guilty of murdering Frankie Ryan

GARY Campion, who is serving a life sentence for the murder of nightclub bouncer Brian Fitzgerald, has been convicted of murdering Frankie Ryan in Moyross in 2006.

Campion, 26, from Delmege Park, Moyross was convicted by a jury at the Central Criminal Court in Cloverhill this Thursday afternoon.

Throughout the trial, which lasted for over two months, he had denied murdering the 21-year-old who was shot at Delmege Park on September 17 2006.

He was shot twice in the back of the head as he sat in his car in what the prosecution described as a cold, calculated, execution-style killing.

The jury of six men and six women returned with a majority verdict after deliberating for more than eight hours over the past three days.

Gary Campion is one of two men who are serving life sentences for the murder of Brian Fitzgerald who was gunned down outside his home in Corbally in 2002.

He was convicted of that crime in November 2007 following a lengthy trial and he has been in prison since.

Mr Justice Paul Carney will impose sentence in relation to the murder of Frankie Ryan at Limerick Courthouse on July 8.
