Gardai investigating after man is shot at in Limerick city centre incident
GARDAI are investigating a shooting incident in the city centre last night during which a man in his thirties was targeted.
The man was shot at a number of times as he walked in the Michael Street area at around 9.30pm however he was not injured.
"We have received a complaint and our investigations are ongoing," said Det Sgt Kevin McHugh of Henry Street garda station, who confirmed that CCTV footage from the area is being viewed by detectives.
The scene of last night's shooting was examined by forensic experts this morning.
Separately, two men were being questioned this Monday following one of the biggest drugs seizure in Limerick so far this year.
Three-and-a-half kilos of cocaine and three kilos of amphetamine were recovered when gardai stopped and searched a car at Ballysimon Road during a pre-planned operation, which was led by members of the divisional drugs squad. The drugs seized have been sent to Garda Headquarters for forensic analysis but it is estimated they have a street value of more than €300,000.
The two occupants of the car, men in their 20s, were arrested at the scene and they are being detained at Henry Street and Roxboro Road Garda Stations under Section 2 of the Drug Trafficking Act.
And, in an unrelated case, a 35-year-old man was remanded in custody over the weekend after he appeared before a special sitting of Limerick District Court charged in connection with the hijacking of a taxi a week ago.
Robert McNamara, 35, with an address at St Patrick's Park, Carrick-on-Shannon, Co. Leitrim is accused of stealing €140 in cash, a Nokia phone and the keys to the Toyota Corolla at Bawnmore Road, Limerick on March 8, last year.
