Funeral details announced for road crash victim near Newcastle West
AS GARDAI at Newcastle West continue to investigating a fatal road crash near the town on Sunday night, the deceased has been named as Michael Scanlon, of Dirreen Cross, Athea.
The crash happened at Sweeps Cross, three kilometres from Newcastle West at around 7.30pm.
It is understood Mr Scanlon was knocked down by a car as he was clearing debris from the road following an earlier minor crash.
The main N21 road between Newcastle West and Abbeyfeale was closed for several hours on Sunday night as a full technical examination took place.
Any witnesses to the crash are asked to contact Newcastle West gardai at 069 62111.
The late Mr Scanlon will repose at his residence from 4pm to 8pm this Tuesday evening. Requiem Mass will be held on Wednesday at 12.30pm, with burial afterwards in Holy Cross Cemetery.
