Family’s nightmare as Limerick son still missing 12 years on
Missing man Gus Shanahan, from Ennis Road, who 'disappeared' in 2000
AFTER an agonising 12 years, a Limerick family are still hoping people will come forward with information about their missing son.
Aengus Shanahan, from the Ennis Road, pictured, has been missing since February 11 2000.
Gardai have now renewed their appeal for information as the 12th anniversary of his disappearance passed last weekend.
Aengus, better known as ‘Gussie’ is the youngest in a family of four and lived with his parents Bob and Nancy at Ashbrook, Ennis road. The then 20 year-old was an employee of Dell in Castletroy, and finished work on the afternoon of his disappearance.
Family or friends had not seen or heard from him over that weekend and concern grew regarding his whereabouts. When he did not return to work on the following Monday his family reported him as a missing person to An Garda Siochana.
It has been established that he went to Coopers bar (now Eric’s bar) in St Joseph Street with friends on that Friday afternoon. He was due to stay that night with friends in St Joseph Street but did not do so. He left the bar on his own at 10.30pm and walked from there onto Old School House lane, which connects with Barrington Street. That is the last sighting of Gussie. He is described as being 5ft 10ins, with a thin build, weighing about 10 stone, with a pale complexion, and had short fair hair at the time.
His dad Bob said previously: “Someone can’t just disappear into thin air like that. And somebody out there knows something. Whether he is found dead or alive, we just want to know.” Anyone with information is asked to contact Roxboro Road Garda Station on 061 214340.
