Dublin shooting victim has family connections in Limerick

RELATIVES of the 16-year-old girl who was shot dead in Tallaght last night have travelled from Limerick to Dublin to comfort her immediate family.

It has emerged the teenager, who has been named locally as Melanie McCarthy, moved from the Newcastle West area to Dublin a number of years ago. Her mother is orginally from the Ballinacurra Weston of Limerick city and she still has relatives living there.

Melanie died in hospital in the early hours of this morning after she was shot in a drive-by shooting at around 10.30pm last night.

Gardai have described the killing as a “Heinous crime” and Justice Minister, Alan Shatter says it was “horrific” and will not be tolerated.
