DPP is to get file over Limerick man's disappearance

A FILE is to be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions after gardai arrested a 27-year-old man in connection with the disappearance of a County Limerick man two months ago.

Francis Green, 48, who is originally from Kilteely, was last seen near his home at Hartstonge Street in Limerick city centre during the evening of November 28. He had been living at the basement apartment for some time and a major investigation has been ongoing since his disappearance.

In the weeks after he was reported missing, the Shannon-based coastguard helicopter assisted in the search operation, as did Garda divers who searched parts of the River Shannon. House-to-house enquiries were also conducted around where Mr Green had been living in an effort to trace his last movements and gardai Mr Greene have publicly expressed concerns for his safety.

Detectives at Henry Street station who have viewed hundreds of hours of CCTV footage made a breakthrough at the weekend when they arrested a man on suspicion of falsely imprisoning Mr Green on the day he was last seen.

The man, who was arrested near where Mr Green had been living in the city centre, was detained at Henry Street station and was later released without charge. Gardai say a file will be prepared for the DPP.

Mr Green is described as being 5'8" and of slight build. He has receding brown hair and a moustache, and when last seen he was wearing light jeans, a dark sports jacket and white runners. In a statement issued following his disappearance, his family said: "We, his family, are in great distress and worry, waiting each day for news, hoping and praying that Frank will be found."

Gardai at Henry Street can be contacted at 061-212400.
