DNA tests confirm remains found in Italy are those of missing Limerick woman
The family of Mairéad Geary, the elderly Limerick woman who went missing in Italy in October 2008, have been advised by the Italian authorities that DNA tests conducted recently have confirmed that remains found in the Stresa area in October 2009 are those of Mairéad.
Mairad Geary, who was born in December 1926, went missing on 10 October 2008 whilst on holiday in Stresa, on Lake Maggiore, in northern Italy.
The Geary family have said they would like to express their gratitude to the Soccorso Alpino, the local Carabineri in Stresa, An Garda Siochana, the staff at the Embassy of Ireland in Rome and to all the volunteers who assisted in the search for Mairad.
