Dell workers in final Labour Court push
DELL's workers are making one final bid to bring the Texas-based computer giant before the Labour Court in a bid to secure an improved redundancy package.
The Limerick Leader can reveal that the Dell Workers Representative Group are to use a clause in the Industrial Relations Act 1969, which allows a group or individual to advance a case on their own - if they accept that the court's findings are full and final.
This follows Dell's decision to initially refuse to engage with the Labour Relations Commission - with local boss Sean Corkery saying he did not wish to waste the organisation's time.
Although it will still remain up to Dell as to whether they wish to appear at the Labour Court, the body will make a finding nonetheless - so if the Texan computer giant does not submit any evidence, the recommendation may prove one-sided.
And unlike most Labour Court sittings where its findings are only made
available between the two parties involved, these findings will be made public.
