Councillors against Limerick school's move to Garda Club
PLANS by a school which caters from troubled teenagers to relocate to the former Garda Club on Sexton Street, have been opposed by Limerick city councillors.
St Augustine's School, in Augustinian Lane has submitted plans to relocate their premises to Sexton Street, at the site of the former Garda Club.
The plans for the school - which caters for troubled teens, who struggle in mainstream education - was discussed at yesterday's Council Meeting.
Councillors felt that, although the school needs to move, the Sexton Street site is inappropriate.
Cllr Pat Kennedy said: "While relocation of the school is necessary, going to this area is unsuitable, because there are no suitable amenities nearby."
Cllr Joe Leddin, Labour added: "The location of the school is proposed to be part of the New Limerick orbital route, and this will cause traffic issues.
Councillors claimed Sexton Street, which is a one-way route will lead to further traffic problems.
An outcome is expected on the application on March 26.
