Body found by Clare farmer could be missing Limerick man

A BODY found washed up on a riverbed in Co Clare may be that of a missing Limerick man.

Garda are investigating the discovery of a man's body in a field close to the River Shannon in Co Clare on Friday.

The body was found at around 3.30pm by a passer-by in the townland of Portdrine near Cratloe between Limerick City and Shannon.

The remains have been removed to the Mid Western Regional Hospital in Limerick where a postmortem examination will be carried out this Saturday afternoon by Deputy State Pathologist Dr. Khalid Jabbar.

Gardai say the results will determine the course of their investigation.

It's believed the body may be that of missing Limerick man Francis Greene, who has been missing since last November 28 and disappeared in mysterious circumstances.

The 48 year old - originally from Kilteely - had been living on an apartment in Hartstonge Street in the city.

It's understood the body had been in the water for a number of weeks.
