Big crowd expected at action-packed festival
LARGE numbers of visitors are expected in Adare this weekend for the third, annual Adare Village Festival which promises lots of fun, spectacle and family entertainment.
The festival kicks off this Friday with a fun-filled evening for children that includes magic and puppet shows as well as a session with Clare storyteller Eddie Linehan. Eddie's highly dramatic style of storytelling begins in the Village Hall at 7.30pm and admission is free, courtesy of the Foolish Fairy, but booking is recommended.
Saturday will see the return of the craft and food market on the village green, with stalls selling home produce, specialty foods, drinks and craft items.
The popular miniature train will also be in action over the weekend, providing tours of the village and Adare Manor.
There will also be tours of Adare Castle. Formula Fun go-karts will provide thrills for eager youngsters and there will be lots of street entertainment, the organisers promise, including an African drum demonstration.
The gazebo in the Village Park will be the centre for an arts jamboree with music, mime and dancing exhibitions, including hip-hop, salsa as well as Irish dancing.
There will also be Children's Theatre as well as a specialised local craft exhibition.
Art exhibitions will also feature and on Saturday evening, a traditional Irish concert takes place, with music, singing and dancing. There will also be music in local hostelries throughout the weekend.
Sunday is vintage day, with a display of old farm machinery at the Old Creamery, along with a display of creamery memorabilia.
Sunday also is golf day with a three-ball scramble taking place at Adare Golf Club. Tee times are subject to availability and the cost is j50 per person.
A duck race takes place on the Maigue at 5.30pm, organised by Adare ladies' football and camogie clubs, with great prizes for the first five ducks past the finishing line.
All proceeds will go towards the provision of equipment at the new playing pitches in Adare Community and Sports Complex.
Sunday evening will see an outdoor concert on the Village Green, featuring Sean O'Dowd.
