Ardagh's moment: group stages award winning play
ARDAGH Drama Group returns to Rathkeale this Thursday with their 2009 production, The Quiet Moment, by Mike Finn.
It is a play which deals with the serious theme of Alzheimer's, but is leavened throughout with humanity and humour. And it is a play which has brought awards to this longestablished group.
Earlier this year, the group travelled the amateur drama festival circuit – going to seven festivals – and clocked up four Best Actor awards for Ger Liston as the Alzheimer's patient, as well as two supporting actor awards for Anthony O'Shaughnessy.
The production also won at several festivals, thus guaranteeing them a place in the All-Ireland Drama Festival, Confined, which took place last month in County Waterford.
And, although Ardagh did not win this time, the play was very well received, according to coproducer Maggie Enright. Many audience members had very strong emotional response to the play and there was a lot of feedback, she told the Limerick Leader.
Their hope now is that those who haven't seen the play – and indeed, the many who have – will come along on Thursday night to support them. The show is intended to help defray the costs of touring. The play will start at 8pm in Rathkeale Arts Centre, located over the library on the Ballingarry road.
A final production of the play will be staged at Raheenagh Hall this Saturday to raise funds for Ashford Montessori School.
