And they're nearly off! Cheltenham fever builds in Limerick
WITH just under a week to go, Cheltenham fever is taking hold in Limerick, where punters are monitoring closely the progress of local favourites in the festival.
Among the big names hoping to make their mark at the Gloucestershire race venue next week are Boher jockey Brian O'Connell; Ballingarry trainer Charles Byrnes; Templeglantine native Dan Harnett, and, of course, Martinstown's JP McManus.
Among JP's powerful team of horses travelling to the Cotswolds for the world famous festival will be Captain Cee Bee, who races in the Arkle Challenge Trophy, and favourite Garde Champetre, one of five McManus entries in the Cross Country Chase also on Tuesday afternoon.
All five are trained by Bruree handler Enda Bolger.
The successful racing duo of McManus and Bolger featured in an exclusive interview in Sunday's edition of the Racing Post in which Mr McManus gave a rare insight into both his racing world and private life at his home in Martinstown, Kilmallock.
