Adare blossoms in Limerick in Bloom

ADARE Tidy Towns and Development Association has won the the Limerick In Bloom 2009 competition.

Thirty-two communities from across County Limerick took part in the second annual competition. The winners were announced at a function in the Woodlands House Hotel, Adare, this Tuesday night.

The competition is organised by Limerick County Council, in conjunction with Shannon Development.

Competition categories are based on population size with a first, second and third prize in each category of €1,100, €550. €300 respectively. Category I caters for towns and villages with a population in excess of 700; Category II is for population centres of between 300 and 700 people, and Category III features villages with a population less than 300.

Category I was won by Ardagh Development Co Ltd, with 83 points. Second was Croagh Community Council,, 78 points, and Ardpatrick Tidy Towns, 77 points, came third.

Galbally Tidy Towns, 80 points, claimed the overall prize in Category II. Patrickswell Tidy Towns came second on 79 points, and Broadford Development Association Ltd and Foynes and District Community Council shared third on 76 points.

Meanwhile, Adare Tidy Towns and Development Association, 90 points, was named overall winner of Category I, with Kilmallock Tidy Towns / Bruff Tidy Towns, joint second on 70 points, and Hospital Tidy Towns, 68 points, third.
