GARDAI are investigating the circumstances of a fire at Quin Street near Limerick city centre this afternoon.

Four units of the Limerick city fire and rescue service attended the scene after the alarm was raised shortly after midday.

There were initial fears the small fire, which broke out in a common area of the three story building, was going to spread but it was quickly brought under control and fire crews stood down.

Nobody was injured during the incident and the street, which links O’Connell Avenue and Mount Saint Alphonsus re-opened to traffic just before 1pm.
