Searches for missing students continue in Limerick

THE week long searches for two missing students in Limerick were continuing this Friday.

Tullamore native Mark Casey (19) was last seen leaving Angel Lane nightclub at Robert Street in Limerick city centre at around 1.30am last Friday.

Mark, who is a student at NUIG is described as being 5’7” in height, of normal complexion with brown hair and hazel eyes.

When last seen he was wearing grey Chino pants, a dark coloured T-shirt with a grey collar.

Searches, which were being conducted in and around the city centre were scaled down this Wednesday with gardai focussing their efforts on viewing hundreds of hours of CCTV footage in an attempt to find him.

Gardai have confirmed the teenager was last seen on CCTV at Lelia Street near St John’s Cathedral a short time after he left the nightclub. Searches have been conducted along the Canal Bank as part of the search operation.

Dozens of friends and relatives of the teenager travelled to Limerick from Offaly and Galway following his disappearance to help with the searches.

Separately, searches have been taking place this week for Steven Kavanagh (21) from Clonlara who has not been seen since around 2.30am last Thursday.

Steven, who is vice-president of the LIT Students’ Union, is described as being five foot ten inches tall with tight, brown hair and a slight build.

When last seen he was wearing blue jeans a blue Limerick FC jacket and black runners.

The searches have been focussing in-and-around the headrace canal where several dives took place this Wednesday.

Rescue 115 - the Shannon-based coastguard helicopter, the civil defence and members of the Limerick and Killaloe search and rescue units have been assisting in this week’s searches.
